Okanagan Chinese-Canadian History Project

“Diversifying the Okanagan's Past and Future” is an oral history project initiative led by the Chinese Canadian Historical Society of BC (CCHSBC) and the OCCA Communities Association (OCCA).

The stories and contributions of immigrant communities (as well as other visible minorities) have been under-documented within Canada’s archives and historical records. This gap continues in the historical narration of the last century, even with changes in population makeup through the different waves of migration. With the aim of recording underrepresented oral histories of the people whose presence have shaped the making of the Okanagan, we hope this will also be an opportunity for community building and knowledge sharing through oral history workshops.

Click here to read our project assistants' reflections from the project launch in October 2025.

This Project has been made possible in part by the Documentary Heritage Communities Program offered by Library and Archives Canada / Ce projet a été rendu possible en partie grâce au Programme pour les collectivités du patrimoine documentaire offert par Bibliothèque et Archives Canada.
